Do you ever feel stuck or like your life is in a rut? Do you feel like you want so much more but you just can't see how to get from here to there? If this describes you, then you are one of millions of Americans who are feeling exactly the same way.
Making significant changes to better your life can be difficult. It is a universal law that bodies tend to continue in their current state unless acted on by external forces. Our lives, over time take on an inertia that can be hard to alter.
But change is possible. You can learn new skills, make new plans and, most importantly, you can follow through. All it takes is wisdom, care and commitment.
Because change can be difficult, sometimes you need a little help. The problem is that many don't know where to look. And when you do find help, it can be expensive or inconvenient to access.
The Higgins Group, LLC, is a group of people with one mission: to help people live fuller, richer, healthier and better lives. We provide a variety of high quality, professional training sessions on topics that will help you be more productive, get a job or advance in your career, improve your health or master new skills.
Most of the time, we provide our services free of charge with no obligation whatsoever. We have been blessed in our careers and now we are in a place where we simply want to give back. Let us help you!
I founded The Higgins Group, LLC, in 2008. At the time, I was experiencing a very difficult time in my life. I had been diagnosed with a terminal liver disease eight years earlier and my health had deteriorated substantially. I had to cut back to part time at my job because simple activities of daily life had become so difficult.
The Higgins Group originally was a consulting firm. I provided a wide variety of advanced statistical and research services to federal contractors. Through my company, as well as my "day job" I helped organizations develop and validate pre-employment assessments for use in hiring a high quality work force. I developed interviews, written tests and other assessment instruments for peace officers, microwave technicians, a variety of convenience store positions, analytical jobs and managerial and supervisory positions. I also conducted advanced statistical analyses for companies to help them determine whether there was bias in their compensation systems and, if so, helped them address pay disparities.
This side work ended up being quite successful. I felt like it truly was a blessing from God.
Then, in 2012, I was provided with a truly wonderful gift. A woman who had made the loving decision to be on organ donor passed away. Her gift have me a second lease on life in the form of a liver transplant. It is hard to convey just how wonderful it was to go from being terribly sick to completely healthy almost overnight. It is just such a wonderful experience--and it can change your life.
Since my liver transplant, my priorities have changed. No longer am I particularly interested in climbing the corporate ladder or advancing in my profession. I have been more successful than many and so now my goal is to help others.
Therefore, I have changed the fundamental mission of The Higgins Group. It is now our mission to help others achieve to their potential. Starting in 2021, my colleagues and I will dedicate ourselves to helping others. We have a tremendous amount of professional experience and have honed some highly advanced skills. We want to share these with others in a way that is non-threatening, easy to grasp for non-technical individuals, and fun.
We plan to provide seminars, classes, and even occasional one-on-one advice in both in-person and online formats. We are starting small and focusing on training that will make the most difference to the greatest number of people. For example, one of our first classes is "How to get a (better) job." This class takes my many years of both a hiring manager and helping hiring managers in many organizations select the best employees and presents it to job seekers to make them more competitive and effective in their own careers. We also plan to offer training on highly technical skills such as research and statistics. The reason is that people who have these skills are very in demand for well-paying jobs.
Finally, we will offer training on leadership development, team building and even healthy cooking. If we can make someone's life better, fuller, healthier or happier, we will explore providing training in the topic.
Our training is generally free. For our in-person classes, we will allow people who have experienced value to donate toward covering costs, but it will not be a requirement.
If you are reading this, we hope that we will have an opportunity to meet you and perhaps even help you change your own life for the better.
